Journal Register Company's group editor in Connecticut to address PRSA on Jan. 11
Matt DeRienzo, group editor for Journal Register Company's publications in Connecticut, will be the guest speaker at the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America's next luncheon program at 12 noon on Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the Rocky Top Student Center, Room 303 on the York Hill Campus of Quinnipiac University.

DeRienzo, who oversees the New Haven Register, Middletown Press, Register Citizen and Connecticut Magazine, will discuss recent changes at each of the publications, including the creation of an investigative team, a breaking news team, and audience engagement team at the New Haven Register. In addition, The Register created beats dedicated to coverage of Yale University and land use, business climate and environmental health of the Long Island Sound.

Members learned how a focus on branding and messaging helped make Subway the largest restuarant chain in the world. Senior communications professionals at Subway will took part in a panel discussion, providing a behind the scenes look at Subway's rapid growth.

Representatives from Connecticut’s four network affiliates took part in a panel discussion on the best ways public relations professionals can work with television stations at a program sponsored by the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Local Chapter Hosted PRSA Teleseminar on Media Relations

On March 8, 2011, at Gateway Community College, the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America sponsored a broadcast of a PRSA teleseminar: "Eight Ways to Go from Snooze to News." Guests learned about journalists' changing requirements for "newsworthiness" in the new media landscape with instructor and media trainer Michael Smart.

The Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America hosted the panel discussion, “Tuning In: The Best Practices for Working with Connecticut Radio Stations,” on Thursday, February 24, in Room 303 of the Rocky Top Student Center on the York Hill Campus of Quinnipiac University, 305 Sherman Avenue.
 
A panel of local radio personalities and executives discussed the best ways to book the clients of public relations practitioners on their programs as studio guests and news sources. The program will include:
