Meet our 2022 Practitioner of the Year:
Anita Ford Saunders, APR

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Dec. 5, 2022) - The Public Relations Society of America Greater Connecticut Chapter (PRSA CT) is pleased to announce Anita Ford Saunders, APR, owner of AFS Communications, as its 2022 Practitioner of the Year.

The PRSA CT’s Practitioner of the Year Award recognizes an individual who, throughout their career, demonstrated that they are an outstanding example of excellence in the industry, having helped to deliver meaningful results

to improve the connection between their employer or clients and related constituencies. Saunders will be honored with the award on Dec. 13 at PRSA CT’s 2022 Mercury Awards Ceremony in New Haven.


A seasoned PR professional, Saunders was an Emmy Award-winning television producer before embarking on a career in public relations that included roles at Trinity College, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, Yankee Gas Services Company, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Connecticut Public Television & Radio.

Former president of the PRSA Connecticut Valley Chapter, which is now part of PRSA CT, Saunders went on to help advance the profession through work with PRSA on the national level where she currently serves as co-chair of its Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and is a past member of its Board of Directors and its Board of Ethics and Professional Standards.

“PRSA Greater Connecticut is very pleased to recognize Anita as its 2022 Practitioner of the Year for an impressive career filled with outstanding contributions to the public relations profession both in Connecticut and nationally, said Chapter President Alison Skratt. “Her leadership and commitment to excellence stand as an exceptional example for how public relations can make a positive difference in the world.”

A resident of Middletown, Connecticut, Saunders also gives back to the communities she serves in a variety of ways. She was recently elected president of the Middlesex County NAACP. She serves on the board of the Connecticut Democracy Center and on the communications and marketing committee of The Village for Families and Children. She is also a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., an international service sorority, and is a past president of its Epsilon Omicron Omega Chapter.
