PROPOSAL TO MERGE
THE CONNECTICUT VALLEY AND SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT
PRSA CHAPTERS INTO ONE CHAPTER
Between June 19 to 30 we are asking all
members of the Southern Connecticut and Connecticut Valley Chapters of PRSA to vote on a proposal to merge and become one PRSA Connecticut Chapter.
The management and operations of the Southern Connecticut and Connecticut Valley Chapters were consolidated in 2015, when the leadership of the CT Valley chapter resigned due to a decline in board participation. This appears to be a trend in areas where economic strain have impacted the profession. In cases where this is so, colleagues have less time and support to volunteer their time.
At the behest of PRSA national, the Southern Connecticut chapter's leadership agreed to manage both chapters and to offer events and networking opportunities across both service regions until a solution could be found. Over the past 18 months we have been actively seeking out colleagues to serve on a new leadership team to take on the work of rebuilding PRSA in Connecticut.
In the meantime, we have continued to serve both chapters by hosting several professional development and networking events in Hartford, New Haven and along the shoreline, and we have initiated collaborations with several PRSSA chapters to offer internships and plan events. We have also revived the popular Mercury Awards to be held in September 2017.
The leadership team has also determined that, rather than managing two separate entities with 55 and 80 members, respectively, it will be more efficient and advantageous to the membership to merge the two chapters into one, stronger chapter with streamlined resources and concentrated focus on providing the very best in professional development, networking and support to PR professionals in Connecticut.
